Metro Maps

The map is perhaps my favorite medium of communication. Fusions of art and science, where aesthetics and utility meet, a great map should be useful at a glance and beautiful when studied. I began with the Hartford Metro Map, a non-existent metro system in Hartford, CT. After studying the city, its neighborhoods, traffic patterns and surrounding areas, I attempted to place stations and lines in a visually pleasing yet practical locations. Intended to stimulate pride in the city and more discussion about transportation issues, the 27″ x 16.5″ map was printed using funds raised through Kickstarter, with all proceeds going to ConnectiKids, a Hartford-based youth tutoring non-profit. You can learn more about the map design process.

The Connecticut Metro Map was an unrelated follow-up project. Though it’s hard to justify putting such a transportation system underground, I wanted to explore transportation patters, particularly for commuters, in the entire state. Now, you can buy the 18″ x 22.5″ CT Metro Map print.

Brian-

I just missed the ending of kickstarter auction, but would like the opportunity to purchase one of the maps. Is it possible?

Hi Brian, wondering if the posters offered in exchange for pledging donations are available yet., I should be on your list of donors. I can come into Hartford to pick up. I think I also have a t-shirt coming.

Thanks for this fabulous design and being behind Hartford.

If you don’t live in the Hartford area, is there another way to purchase a map?
