For a long time, the Cookblog has been foxy in Firefox and AAAIIIEEEYYY! in IE. Recently, it became obvious that I could no longer call myself a web designer while allowing such a cross-browser compatibility issue exist on my very own website. After a little research and a fairly large amount of work, I came up with a new design that should last at least a few months.

Using Chris Pearson’s Cutline theme as a base, I destroyed the slick, clean look with enough clutter to make the Christmas Tree Shop blush. First came a faux desktop background that incorporates elements of my main interests: a passport (travel), a book (literature), a CD case (music), some Carcassonne tiles (games), an Edward Gorey drawing (art), a bottle cap (food & drink), a picture of Eric Cantona (soccer) and some sort of fake Google ranking formula (web). Of course, you can only appreciate the background if you have a common screen resolution. If you’re too small, there’s not enough to appreciate. If you have three monitors, you’re just a jerk.
I’m happy with the theme and looking forward to tweaking it even further. Naturally, there are some kinks still to work out, so if you spot anything amiss, please leave a comment and let me know. If you want to weigh in with your opinions and/or recommendations on the look, you’re welcome to do that, too. Have at it!
